This leads me to my question of the day...which ironically is sparked by two questions I heard asked by fellow students.
Question 1: Some kid (after an allusion made by my professor to the recent events) literally asked "So what's going on in Japan?"
Question 2: Another student asked my professor in my next class, "So who are the Lehman Brothers?"
Wow. I'm not usually critical of my fellow students, but today was ridiculous. And people wonder why American students' test scores are lower than their counterparts around the world. It's not a matter of IQ or talent, it's a matter of laziness.
Which leads me to my question of the day: What is the point of the American public school system? Answer: To develop better citizens of the world. Right now I'm not seeing that.
My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the disaster...hopefully Japan can get back on it's feet soon.
Excellent points made. The fact is that we live in a very narcissistic society...its all about me me me. We value status over education, and comfort over courage to change. Its sad...
ReplyDeleteI agree...all we can do is model the way and hope to inspire change..whether that be in our education, profession, or sport.
