As a result of my continued involvement in the world of fitness and sports performance training, I learned from my mentor Brian Diaz of the importance of training logs. Hence, below are my attempts to accurately document what I do as a collegiate soccer player, both on and off the field. Enjoy!

Solid Weekend

Glad to have a little time to catch up mentally this weekend as well as get some good training in.

Friday was a relatively tough day on the legs.  Started off in the morning with shooting practice.  Jumped on the bike afterwards for a quick 11 mile ride at 18.7 mph average.  Wanted to play it somewhat conservative and kept my heart rate at an average of 168 bpm (maxing at 184 near the end of the ride).  Headed out to team practice afterwards consisting of passing drills, circuit work, and full field games.  Played well and the legs felt good by 5:00 pm at the end of a long day.

After a quick dinner I headed out to coach the Woodside team for our Friday night game.  We pulled off a solid 2-0 win and I was very happy to see the boys enjoy their first victory of the season...hoping we can build on that momentum through the rest of the spring.

Took Saturday off and stayed away from both school and training.  Legs were sorer than anticipated so with some storms and cooler weather rolling through I took some time for myself.

This morning I got up for my brick workout.
Bike: 12.85 miles at 18.2 mph average.  Average heart rate at 160 bpm (maxing at 175) for the 42 minute ride...felt like I was riding into a chilly headwind 75% of the time.

Run: 2.0 miles at 12:20 working out to about 6:10 min/miles.  I was much more pleased with my heart rate when I hit the turnaround at about 6:25 to see I was hovering around 170 bpm.  Hopefully this is a good sign of increased fitness and efficiency with my running.  Overall HR average was 174 bpm maxing at 190 near the finish.  Felt really great and decided to up the pace for the second mile back.  N8 data gives a slightly faster reading of an avg. of 5:58/mile maxing at 5:28 near the end.  This just goes to show that smart pacing on the bike pays off on the run.

Overall I was somewhat disappointed with my ride but very pleased with the run.  I got plenty of sleep last night and made good decisions with my hydration/nutrition which really helped with the workout.  Now time to buckle down and get some school work done for the week ahead.
